It all started when...

Adam Handelsman created SpecOps Communications to address today’s ever evolving communications landscape. We knew the one dimensional public relations approach was done and the only way to properly build brands was to offer a unique set of strategic media & digital relations, social networking and content creation services.

Communications’ campaigns must be focused and implemented in a swift, nimble and highly proficient manner, all designed to produce results; not billable hours.

We work with Fortune 100 global corporations to start-ups, public companies to private companies, and organizations hailing from the consumer, B2B, health & wellness, technology and CSR sectors. These companies turn to SpecOps not only for creative and strategic thinking, but for the actual work required to execute!

At SpecOps Communications, we are solely focused on listening to and addressing our client’s needs, creating campaigns with accuracy, and achieving actionable results with accountability. We ideate. We execute. You WIN!

Adam Handelsman, President

Adam@specopscomm.com

Adam definitely beats to different drum. He is a hands-on marketing & media generalist who truly understands today’s media landscape and how to secure impactful results. His career is built on results and he is driven by the belief that it’s only about what people say about you, not what you say about yourself. Over the past 25 years, he has been fortunate to work with incredible people, brands, companies and organizations, and even a few of his heroes such as Ray Bradbury, Dick Schaap, Stephen Pressfield, Maj. Ralph Peters and Nick Bollieterri. Those early days of cutting his PR chops were instrumental to his future success because it taught him the basic skills that very few use today… communicating with a voice rather than being totally dependent on email. With a background that transcends both the client-side and agency worlds, Adam has led PR and media programs for a wide range of emerging brands to Fortune 100 corporations. He experience includes creating the Starbucks "Green Team", directing Philips Van Heusen's "Save Ellis Island" campaign, implementing General Electric's "Hire Our Heroes" campaign, along with leading programs for Evian, World Gym, Shopping.com, Merck, Nice Systems, EDS, Patina Restaurant Group, Guardian Angel, Cardinal Health and Mercantile Capital Group. In 1996, while working as an Account Supervisor at a NYC agency, he created the Starbucks Coffee “Green Team” in the process of trying to figure out how to generate positive coverage for the company. He wrangled twenty-five employees to clean up Morningside Park in New York City for ‘Earth Day’. It turned out to be a little bigger than he originally thought. The Parks & Recreations Commissioner at the time, Henry Stern, joined the event and sang happy birthday to the Earth, surrounded by Starbucks employees, on a fledgling Fox News Channel. The segment hit in 100 markets. Prior to founding SpecOps Communications, Adam served as the Managing Director at Lippert/Heilshorn & Associates (LHA), EVP; National Director of Strategic Media Relations for Cohn & Wolfe, and was the EVP & Partner at 5W Public Relations. In the dot com era, Adam was the Director of Public Relations at Netpulse, creator of the Internet Powered Workout, headed by Thomas Proulx (co-founder of Intuit and author of Quicken). At Netpulse, which was one of the original place-based advertising networks, he personally secured over 3000 media hits in three years. Prior to Netpulse, he held positions at two New York based public relations’ firms. Handelsman began his PR career at the Avon Books, a division of the Hearst Corporation.

Adam loves to fly-fish, drive his Jeep (anywhere) and spend time with his wife and two daughters. In the fall he can be seen every Sunday agonizing on the couch watching his Jets.
